There was nothing for it. She would just have to go down to breakfast herself. She had waited in the common room for Harry and Ron long enough. Hermione might have gone up to their dorms and just woke them up, but she was pretty sure that would bother the other Gryffindor sixth year boys, and that just wouldn't work out well for her. She probably wasn't supposed to go up to the boys rooms anyway, but since the stairs didn't turn into a massive slide whenever a girl walked up them, she figured it was okay. But the boys could be getting dressed, and that would be one of the most embarrassing things Hermione could think of to walk in on right now. Since the boys were being lazy (or had already gone down to breakfast without her) and Hermione was already in her school uniform for the day, she decided to grab a book and head down to the Great Hall.
The trip probably should have taken a while. After all, the common room for Gryffindor students was in a tower and the Great Hall was all the way down on the ground floor. But time felt like it passed pretty quickly. Maybe that was because she didn't meet a whole lot of people in the hallways. Or maybe it was because she was alone and didn't have Ron and Harry to distract her with talk. Hermione enjoyed a good conversation, but she didn't think that the middle of a corridor was always the best place for their kinds of conversation. It had always been that way though. Ever since they saved her from a cave troll her first year, Hermione was finding that their conversations were held in plain sight and whispers.
The Great Hall was about half full, which was actually pretty good for a school day. Hermione looked around and noticed a few tired faces. Why hadn't they gone to bed at a decent hour to start the day? Sure, there were times when she didn't get enough sleep, but usually she was helping Harry and Ron save the wizarding world so she figured that was excusable. Besides, she never yawned as much as she saw some people doing. With a humph she sat down at the Gryffindor table and opened her book.
